Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College, founded on 10thAugust, 1968, had its root in the form of the twin colleges—Birla College of Science & Birla College of Education, actually as Birla School of Education (Teacher’s Training College) set up together under the management of Birla Group in the name of Vidyamandir Society, simultaneously affiliated to the University of Calcutta in1969 with effect from the session 1968-1969.The two Institutions were amalgamated into one college under the name of Birla College of Science and Education in the same year. It was renamed as Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College with effect from 1stJuly, 1987.The college was affiliated by the U.G.C. under Act 2f and 12(B) in the year 1968 and also recognized by National Council for Teacher Education [N.C.T.E.] for its B.Ed. course since 1995. In the year 2009, the College has been accredited by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Dept. of B.Ed. of the college is one of the oldest and prestigious departments of Teacher Education in the state. Throughout the state of West Bengal, other states of India as well as several countries all over the world its alumni have been gracing as teachers or administrators. At present the department itself has three such alumni as teachers, besides others belonging to other departments of the college.
